Bethany Phillis attended The Governor's School West program in 2004 with a concentration in English. That summer, she both confirmed her love for teaching and discovered her love for The Governor's School.
She graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2009, with a Bachelor of Arts in English and earned her Master of Arts in Teaching, from Duke University. She taught for a few years in Durham, but her high school alma mater eventually called her home. In 2014, she returned to her hometown to teach English at Hendersonville High School. Students at the school embrace her as the teacher wearing a Lowe’s Tool Belt, which symbolizes her “Tools for Education.”
Bethany serves a dual role of Dean of Students and as Area III Instructor at Governor's School West, during her summers. There, she rediscovers her love of teaching, reading, and analyzing Disney films. She is a huge asset to the organization.
