You Can Help Nurture Tomorrow's Leaders!

DONATE.  VOLUNTEER.  LEARN MORE.

DONATE

The Governor's School Foundation (GSF) ensures that all intellectually gifted students have the option of attending the Governor's School, regardless of cost. While the GSF does receive government funding, it is not enough to assure equal access to all students. Private donations pave the way for full accessibility.

Every contribution counts, $20.00, $10.00 or even $5.00 makes am impact!

TAX BENEFITS FROM OTHER FORMS OF GIFTS

Stock:  The Governor’s School Foundation will also accept gifts of marketable securities.  In addition to obtaining a tax benefit from a charitable deduction for the fair market value of the stock, you may avoid capital gains tax on the appreciation of the stock.

IRA Charitable Distribution: The “qualified charitable deduction” (QCD) is a strategy for donating to charities directly from an IRA after age 70 ½ in a tax advantaged manner.  Making a QCD as opposed to a normal charitable gift has two main advantages.  First, a QCD counts toward satisfying the individual’s required minimum distribution for that year.  Second, the distribution is excluded from the taxpayer’s income – particularly advantageous under the new tax bill.  Under the new tax bill very few people are expected to itemize their deductions and as a result the tax advantages of charitable giving will be lost.  However, if you make a QCD, you get a full exclusion of that income from taxes – even if you don’t itemize your deductions.

Method of Transfer:  For a gift of marketable securities, you should contact your broker to have the securities transferred to the Governor’s School Foundation.  For an IRA charitable distribution, you should contact your IRA plan administrator to make a distribution from the IRA directly to the Governor’s School Foundation.  If you are interested in making such a gift and have any questions, please contact Sandy Crumrine, Assistant Treasurer of the Governor’s School Foundation, at (910) 524-7071.

Disclaimer:  You should consult your own tax advisor concerning the application of tax laws to your particular situation.

The first step to supporting the Governor's School is finding out all there is to know about North Carolina's premiere institution. Click above to learn more about what makes the Governor's School experience so unique.
Governor’s School directly impacted the rest of my life so far. It introduced me to a new and more comprehensive way of looking at the world, and it encouraged me to really and truly question everything. I met such amazing people with such amazing talents, and my world view is more understanding, positive and human as a result. Most tangibly, the Governor’s School experience influenced my decision to attend Brown University. I was and am forever trying to recreate the feelings of the intellectual paradise that was GSE.

Governor’s school was an absolutely transformative experience for me. I made lifelong friends, was exposed to new and challenging ideas from throughout the political spectrum and intellectually cross-pollinated with the best and the brightest young minds in North Carolina. I think the program is both an essential tool for young students, as well as an important facet of North Carolina’s legacy.

Governor’s School ignited my hunger for knowledge about the world in a way that nothing else has. Since my time at GSW, I have been searching for an intellectual community similar to the one I experienced there. There is truly nothing like it.
